What you need to know about cardiac ultrasound
Ultrasound diagnostics of the heart (echocardiography) is a study that helps to study the general condition and functioning of the heart muscle, the size of the heart cavities, heart valves and chambers, the thickness of the heart walls, and the speed of intracardiac blood flow.
Cardiac ultrasound is one of the most effective methods that allows you to identify diseases of the cardiovascular system in the early stages.
Indications for the study
- dyspnea;
- increased fatigue;
- swelling;
- dizziness;
- high blood pressure;
- heart murmurs;
- pain in the heart, chest;
- heart rhythm disturbances;
- monitoring of the condition after a heart attack and stroke;
- pregnancy.
Preparing for the study
There is no special preparation required for echocardiography. The only recommendation is that you should not drink alcohol or smoke for the day before the examination.
The ultrasound examination procedure has no contraindications and is completely painless.
Heart ultrasound is mandatory for children with birth injuries, if the baby sucks the breast poorly, is constantly crying, the skin around the lips turns blue. Also for children during the period of active growth and puberty in adolescents, before starting physical activity at any age.
If a child constantly complains of fatigue, you should consult a cardiologist and undergo an ECG and echocardiography.
