Description of the disease
Mumps is an infectious disease caused by an RNA virus that affects the salivary glands, less often other glandular organs (pancreas, testicles, ovaries, mammary glands, etc.), as well as the nervous system.

Treatment
Treatment of a mild clinical form is symptomatic, with the development of complications, hospitalization in an infectious disease hospital and additional consultation of narrow specialists is indicated.

Prevention
Prevention - vaccination against mumps, which provides protection for 10 years.

Symptoms
The incubation period is up to 18-20 days, after which symptoms appear:
- Malaise;
- Increase in temperature;
- Characteristic swelling of the salivary glands in the parotid area;
- Pain in the parotid area;
- Hearing impairment;
- Pain when chewing;
- Dry mouth;
- Pain in the sublingual and submandibular salivary glands;
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea are possible.

Diagnostics
Diagnosis is a clinical picture, an immunoenzymatic blood test or a complement binding reaction is also possible.
