Ultrasound of mammary glands
Ultrasound of the mammary glands is an ultrasound method of examination that allows you to evaluate the structure of tissues, see the presence of cysts and neoplasms. The method is also used for a preventive examination of the mammary glands, to clarify the diagnosis obtained with the help of mammography, to control the taking of a puncture from suspicious formations for a more detailed diagnosis.

Indications for ultrasound of mammary glands
- breast tenderness;
- changes in the shape, size, contours and condition of the breast skin;
- increase in axillary, supraclavicular and subclavian lymph nodes;
- engorgement of the nipples and secretion of fluid from them;
- pregnancy planning;
- pregnancy and lactation;
- diagnosis of cysts, tumors and other neoplasms;
- assessment of breast condition after injury or inflammation;
- assessment of the condition of silicone prostheses after breast augmentation surgery;
- monitoring the effectiveness of treatment of dyshormonal diseases of the mammary glands.
It is important to remember that in order to timely diagnose pathological changes of the mammary glands, the examination should be carried out regularly - at least once a year, and after reaching the age of 50 - twice a year.
Breast ultrasound is safe, painless and usually takes about 30 minutes. -
How to prepare for ultrasound of the mammary glands
There is no special preparation for ultrasound of the mammary glands, but in order to increase the accuracy of the results, it is necessary to carry out the examination on a certain day of the menstrual cycle. It is advisable to choose the first half of the cycle (5-10 days). If a woman takes hormonal contraceptives or is in menopause, the time of ultrasound does not matter.
