Reticulocytes are young red blood cells that are formed in the bone marrow. A clinical blood test for reticulocytes helps determine their concentration in the blood and the rate of production of erythrocytes in the bone marrow.

What are the indications for analysis?
- Differential diagnosis of anemia types;
- Diagnostics of the activity of erythrocyte formation processes;
- Monitoring of iron deficiency treatment;
- Determining the severity of anemia ("reticulocyte index" is used).

How to prepare for the analysis?
Blood for analysis is given exclusively on an empty stomach, before giving blood it is desirable to rest for 15 minutes. 12 hours before the study, you should exclude food, limit physical activity, and stop taking medications. If it is impossible to cancel the medication, it is necessary to inform the laboratory or the pediatrician about this.
Children under 5 years of age must drink boiled water (up to 150-200 ml portions within 30 minutes) before donating blood.
