Nasal swab for eosinophils

What you need to know about the eosinophil test
Nasal swab for eosinophils – a test of nasal mucus to diagnose eosinophils in the nasal cavity.
Eosinophils - blood cells belonging to the leukocyte group, are markers - help determine pathology (allergy, infection, parasitic invasion, tissue inflammation). Analysis of a nasal swab for eosinophils allows you to distinguish infectious rhinitis from allergic. The presence of eosinophils in a nasal swab indicates the initial stage of development of allergic rhinitis or rhinitis. A significant excess of indicators may indicate an active form of an allergic disease, and the presence of a parasitic infection in the body cannot be ruled out, on the basis of which additional examination is necessary.
How to prepare for the analysis?
It is best to take a nasal swab for eosinophils in the morning. Before the procedure, it is not recommended to rinse the nose, perform any therapeutic actions, exclude the use of anti-inflammatory and hormonal drugs a day before, and it is recommended to stop the local use of antibacterial drugs at least 5 days before the analysis.
To collect biomaterial from the nasal cavity, a plastic stick with a sterile cotton swab on the end is used, which is passed along the walls of the nose, then placed in a sterile container. The procedure itself is painless.
