Cytological examination of biomaterial for the presence of atypical cells
Cytological examination of biomaterial for the presence of atypical cells is a study that helps to determine the presence of inflammatory, infectious, autoimmune diseases, as well as tumors and precancerous diseases. A big advantage of the research is its high accuracy, simple preparation and implementation, speed of obtaining results, and minimal intervention in the body. The only disadvantage of the method is the collection of biomaterial directly from the affected area. This becomes a problem when the location, such as a tumor, is unknown.
-
Indications for analysis
- prevention of diseases (in particular, gynecological);
- diagnosis of the presence of tumors and their etiology;
- monitoring the effectiveness of treatment.

How to prepare for the analysis?There is no special preparation for the research. It is recommended to exclude the use of antibiotics and antimycotic drugs, other drugs of local action (determined by the doctor) a few weeks before the study.
Various biomaterials may be suitable for cytological research:
- blood, urine, sputum, scrapings from ulcers, wounds, cervix, excreta, transudates, iron secretions, exudates, washing waters;
- biomaterials obtained from punctures of lymph nodes, mammary glands, thyroid gland, skin, pleural fluid, joints, etc.;
- operative material is given for research directly during surgical intervention (scrapings and impressions of removed tissues).
