Sometimes red spots appear on a baby's skin, which worries parents. In most cases, this is a hemangioma - a benign vascular formation that appears in 4-10% of newborns.
What is this?
A hemangioma is a collection of blood vessels that appears as a red or bluish spot on the skin. It is most often seen on the face, neck, or trunk.
Are hemangiomas dangerous?
In most cases, no. Hemangiomas may shrink or disappear with age. But you should see your pediatrician if:
- the spot grows quickly;
- interferes with the child (for example, near the eyes or respiratory tract);
- there is a risk of injury or bleeding.
What to do if you notice a hemangioma in your child?
Don't panic - this is a common occurrence.
Observe the spot: does its size and color change?
