Vaxnewance is a 15-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine used to prevent invasive diseases caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus).

What are the indications for the Vaxnewance vaccine?
In children aged 6 weeks and older:
- Prevention of invasive pneumococcal infection, such as:
- Bacteremia (blood infection)
- Meningitis
- Pneumonia
- Prevention of acute otitis media (ear infection)
In adults (including ≥18 years):
- Prevention of invasive diseases, including:
- Pneumonia
- Sepsis
- Meningitis
Special groups for whom the vaccine is recommended:
- Individuals with chronic medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, COPD, heart failure)
- Individuals with immunosuppression (post-transplant, HIV, chemotherapy)
- Elderly people (65 years and older)
- Individuals with anatomical or functional asplenia (absent or non-functional spleen)

What are the contraindications to the Vaxnewans vaccine?
Hypersensitivity to: The active substance (pneumococcal polysaccharides conjugated to CRM 197 ) Any excipient in the vaccine (e.g. polysorbate 80, histidine) Other pneumococcal vaccines (if there was an allergic reaction previously)
Anaphylactic reaction after a previous dose of Vaxnewance vaccine or any vaccine containing the same protein carrier (CRM 197 ).
Acute infectious diseases with elevated body temperature (fever ≥38°C):
In this case, vaccination is postponed until recovery. -
What are the side effects of the Vaxnewance vaccine?
In children (usually occurring within 1–3 days after vaccination) :
- Increased body temperature (fever)
- Irritability, crying
- Decreased appetite
- Drowsiness or sleep disturbances
- Redness, swelling, or pain at the injection site
In adults:
- Pain at the injection site (up to 60% of cases)
- Weakness, fatigue
- Headache
- Muscle or joint pain
- Slight increase in temperature
- Swelling or hardness at the injection site
