Vaccination: Pneumococcal infection

Vaccination: Pneumococcal infection

❗ ❗ Vaccination against pneumococcal infection is an effective and currently the only way to maximally prevent diseases caused by pneumococcal disease. Two vaccines for the prevention of pneumococcal infection are registered in Ukraine: Prevenar 13 and Synflorix . Vaccination against pneumococcus in Ukraine is included in the recommended list, while in Europe this vaccination is mandatory.

✍ The vaccine Prevenar 13 is used for children from 6 weeks of age and for adults, and protects against 13 varieties (serotypes) of pneumococci.

✍ The Sinflorix vaccine is also used from 6 weeks of age, it is intended for vaccination of children under 5 years of age. Protects against 10 types of pneumococci. In addition to pneumococcal strains, this vaccine also contains components against hemophilic infection. Thus, vaccination with this vaccine reduces the risk of otitis media caused by Haemophilus bacilli.

❗ ❗ Each of the vaccines forms a stable immunity against pneumococcal types, which are responsible for 90% of severe pathologies caused by pneumococcal infection, so it has a high level of protection.
