Febrile seizures in children 😖

🧸 Today, together with the doctors of the Mother's House, we will continue to talk about various possible conditions that may arise in a child, and how to react to them. This time, we will tell you about such a phenomenon as febrile seizures.

😖 Febrile convulsions are involuntary muscle contractions in children caused by a sudden increase in body temperature during a respiratory viral infection. It is a common childhood condition that often has a genetic predisposition.

🩺 Usually, febrile seizures are harmless and do not indicate serious health problems. But we understand how scary it can be to see your child in such a state. Although seizures usually last only a few minutes, those minutes can feel like an eternity.

👩‍⚕️ It is not necessary to administer special anticonvulsant drugs during such seizures. The best thing you can do is stay calm and see a doctor who can determine the cause of the fever and make sure it is not related to a central nervous system infection. If the convulsions lasted less than 5 minutes and the child quickly returned to their usual state, additional treatment is usually not necessary, but after an episode of febrile convulsions, a pediatric neurologist should be consulted.
